Raised in her family-owned bodega on the Lower East Side, Diamond Abreu is a Dominican American filmmaker with a focus in cinematography. Growing up on comic books and action movies, her work is informed by their passion for exploring identity both in reality and in surreal fictional worlds through multiple mediums.

After shadowing Chayse Irvin through the Tribeca Film Institute fellowship program, her cinematography captures nuanced moments through a photographer’s eyes by hypnotizing close-ups and captivating wide frames.

As a first-gen daughter, her identity was not so easily or clearly defined by American standards she aims to explore that in her work while uplifting voices from BIPOC communities.

On set, you’ll find her cracking jokes as she contorts her body against the corner of the room behind the camera framing for the next shot.
